On April 22nd, Mayor Mary Ferdon declared it "K9 Argo Day" to commemorate the remarkable career of K9 Argo, who has dedicated over a decade of service to the Columbus Police Department before retiring. Argo has been a steadfast companion to CPD K9 Officer Branch Schrader, who has devoted 20 years to the Columbus Police Department, with 12 of those years spent in Argo's company. Schrader highlighted Argo's exceptional commitment and passion for work, surpassing the typical service period of K9s, which ranges from five to seven years. Argo's relentless drive and dedication enabled him to double this timeframe, showcasing his extraordinary capabilities. Argo, a dual-purpose K9 proficient in narcotics detection and patrol duties, achieved remarkable accomplishments during his tenure, including 482 arrests and 443 narcotics seizures. His expertise extended to 105 successful building searches and over 150 tracks, one of which led to the rescue of a missing child in collaboration with another agency, as stated in the proclamation. In retirement, Argo will enjoy the countryside alongside Schrader, where he'll have ample space to roam and engage in activities. Schrader noted that Argo's newfound free time will be filled with games of tennis ball fetch, highlighting a well-deserved relaxation phase for this distinguished K9 officer.

The Greensboro Police Department in North Carolina is thanking a dog for his help in tracking down a murder suspect. Although several officers, detectives, and support staff participated in the justice of this case, it was the work of K9 Pete, who tracked the suspect and led officers to find a stolen handgun and cell phone that was used to commit the crime. Please see the announcement below regarding a K9 Officer who has gone missing: The Lake Wales Police Department, with the assistance of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, is looking for K9 Hunter. Today, sometime after midnight, K9 Hunter managed to get out of his kennel. A large presence of officers and deputies, including the PCSO Air Unit, will be in the area until K9 Hunter is located.
